There’s not really much this space is for except for my occasional spoutings of crap.
That being said I will try to make them posts as interesting as I can!
Said spoutings of crap will primarily be my opinions and observations about stuff that I am most commonly surrounded by – that is; movies, computer games, art, various genres of music, and geek toys. It will also hopefully (eloquence permitting) serve as a record of my stances and reasoning on the opinions I present, that I may direct the uneducated, retarded or downright wrong people to for reference, or just look it up for myself when I forget what it was I thought about it.
Firstly, I need to introduce a basic concept that will most usefully help the viewer to identify quickly my opinion about any given text that I’ve seen or heard that I make comment upon here.
One fine afternoon while being quite stoned with a close comrade we were watching or discussing supremely bad movies that were so bad they were actually very good.
A great conundrum we had was that there is no way to directly compare a movie that is genuinely good or genuinely crap, with a movie that is really bad but the badness is so amazing that the movie actually becomes good again. Good enough to compete with genuinely good movies for favouritism (in the eye of the beholder), impact upon the genre, or impact upon the common man. These movies certainly exist and they certainly are awesome.
The problem is that a normal ratings system of 1 to 10 doesn’t adequately allow for these kinds of films to be adequately registered, nor does it allow for positive appraisal of a film by people that do actually like films that most people don’t like. Some revision was necessary. Thus that afternoon we invented ‘The Clock’, a ratings system from 1 to 12 that encompasses a 360 degree view of filmmaking and allows every kind of film to be directly compared in fairly accurate measure.
The aspects of the clock are simple. At the top, 12 o’clock you have everything that is totally fucking awesome. 6 o’clock at the bottom is everything that is so much of a turd clusterfuck disaster that it’ll make you wish you could have the time or lost braincells back.
From 12 o’clock 1, through to 6 o’clock is the register for the genuinely good films getting worse until 6. This side of the clock is much like the normal 1 to 10 scale commonly used to rate most of anything. The side of the clock from 6 back to 12 however, is the space in which the good bad films can be measured. As you go from 6 to 12 a films wrongness, badness or just plain bizarreness gets so amazing that the film becomes truly awesome again, til it gets to 12 where its so good it may as well be considered equal to any and many genuinely good films. Every good concept needs a chart, so here’s ours:

Its a simple concept to come to grips with. For any text I talk about where the use of the clock is appropriate I will probably do so. I’m always open to disputes over ratings given with the clock.
Now I’m going to go have a cigarette and get back to some actual work…
